Welcome to the Upper Cluster in Room 231 Mrs. Skinner
After serving Christ the Teacher as a practicum student, I am blessed to be part of the full time CTTCS faculty. My professional experience in the military, corporate, and service in my church community, have given me a passion to want to give back what I have learned to the generations to come. I believe in the importance of having a foundation in faith and having a heart of service.
My teaching style I am very much a "critical thinking" educator. I believe in empowering students with the ability to formulate educated opinions based on the facts they learn in school, and creating the ability to apply it to every day life. I believe every student has the ability to grow and learn, some at different times and levels. I hope to be one of the catalysts that brings out their abilities. I asked a lot of "why do you think that?" questions and ask them to elaborate on their answers.
I am in my 4th year of classroom teaching, therefore, my curriculum is developing at all times. Some things may work, and some things may not. However, I try and differentiate my instruction in order to meet the learning needs of my students. In order to do that, change is inevitable.
Current Methods of instruction I utilize a variety of online methods such as google classroom, my.hrw.com, and easytestmaker.com. We are moving to a primarily online based instruction with Chromebooks. Your students will have the traditional note taking, worksheets, etc, but they will also have work to do online.
ELA Reading comprehension: Collections series-which is a common core method of reading comprehension and literature. It aligns with my.hrw.com
Grammar: Voyages
Vocabulary/Spelling: Vocabulary Workshop
Independent reading:
8th Grade: Night and To Kill A Mocking Bird
Writing: Research papers, individual writing assignments
I look forward to an enriched and wonderful school year. Thank you for entrusting me with your students!
God bless, Mrs. Skinner
